Advice on Eating Healthy: How Do You Find the Right Information?
“If it tastes good, spit it out.”
“Don’t eat any fruit because they have sugar!”
“Stay away from any white foods!”
These are just some example of poor advice given to patients diagnosed with chronic diseases such as diabetes. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, one of the purposes of Medical Nutrition Therapy is to maintain the pleasure of eating by providing positive messages about food choices while limiting only when indicated by scientific evidence. In honor of springtime let’s clear out negative messages about food and focus on adding variety of nutrient-dense foods that taste delicious! Find Fruits and Veggies in season for this spring at www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/whats-in-season-spring. Here are some examples apricots, artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, honeydew mango, oranges, pineapple, pea pods, and strawberries just to name a few.
