For people who suffer from diabetes, proper hydration is absolutely essential. Read more to get a few small hints about how you can stay hydrated and prevent dehydration this summer.
For individuals suffering from diabetes, dehydration can be a serious health risk. Make sure to discuss these risks with your diabetic patients to keep them aware of all possible complications.
Here are a few helpful tips to stay hydrated and safe during the hot summer months:
- Make sure to drink enough water
- Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, fainting, excessive sweating, cold of clammy skin, headaches, or nausea
- Exercise in a cool place
- Check blood glucose at least four times a day
- Store blood glucose meters, strips, and insulin in a cool, dry place
