Happy 50th Birthday, Medicare!
On July 30th, 1965 after a long political debate, the law creating a national health insurance program for older Americans was signed into legislation by President Lyndon Johnson.
At the time, 50% of senior citizens didn’t have hospital insurance. It was estimated that 1 in 4 of seniors would go without medical care because they were concerned about the cost of care.
Today, Medicare covers about 97% of the elderly. Medicare B is a very important benefit to our patients as it covers Medical Nutrition Therapy by a Registered Dietitian at 100% for patients with Diabetes and/or Chronic Kidney Disease (not on dialysis).
Don’t let this amazing benefit your patients deserve go to waste – Refer every patient with Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease (not on dialysis) so that they can have the support they deserve!
